Habitat Urban Gardens (HUG)

Report: October 2013

Habitat Urban Garden Master Gardeners will wrap up fall gardening classes this month and begin planting Habitat homeowners’ yards. Planting days are scheduled for every Saturday in October. All current Knox County Master Gardeners are invited to help — all you need to know is how to dig a hole and water a plant in. Extra hands are always welcome.

Report: August 2013

All the HUG action is in the nursery this summer. Master Gardener interns Karen Dinwiddie, Kathy Shelton, and Sheila McAllister are sprucing up while Michelle Reimert continues work in Nursery #1 with Cam Muchow. Cam is a new addition to our work crew who volunteers out of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), and what a great addition she has been to our team! According to Dave Craig, she loves to weed and really knows her plants.

Harry Tucker and Dave Craig still do their part at the nursery every week and Becky Fairchild is working to improve the watering system for us. Thanks to all of you who have been so willing to help out in the nursery this summer.

Report: April 2013

On Wednesday, March 13, twenty students from the University of Georgia came to our HUG Nursery to take care of some things that had been on our "to do" list for quite some time. They braved the 43 degree, windy weather and what a job they did, working from nine to five without a single complaint. This was one great group. Also, many thanks to our Master Gardeners who came to lead a group: Dave Craig, Carol Kerr, Michelle Reimert, Dan Steinhoff, and Harry Tucker.

Report: March 2013

After completing four weeks of classes for our Habitat homeowners, HUG will begin our six weeks of planting in March. Those planting days are March 9, 16, 23, April 6, 13, and 20. If you are interested in helping on any of those Saturdays, please contact Linda Denton.
