Ernest F. Koone III is President of Lazy K Nursery, Inc. at Pine Mountain, Georgia. Lazy K Nursery was established in 1957 as a way to utilize land held by his family since 1827, and is the largest grower of native American azaleas in the United States.

At our January public meeting, Ernest will discuss the native azaleas of the southeastern United States, including identification of species, cultural techniques and effective use in the landscape.

Lazy K Nursery has provided plants to public gardens and arboreta, as well as countless private gardens throughout the country. Ernest is presently on the Board of the Rosalynn Carter Butterfly Trail and is a consultant on historic landscapes with the National Park Service. In March 2019, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award of the Azalea Society of America, their highest honor. Lazy K Nursery will be selling native azalea plants at the March 19th Plant Natives 2022 Native Plant Sale & Expo in Chattanooga.

Please note that this in-person meeting is tentative, and may be modified based on Covid risks. Masks will be required at this gathering.
