Fothergilla are deciduous, eastern US natives that are truly spectacular, four-season shrubs. They belong to the same family as witchhazels.
Fothergilla have a tendency to spread by root suckers. They are slow growing shrubs, so pruning is minimal and mainly focused on the suckers. Thin lightly, if needed, to improve airflow and sunshine.
